****Cameron's post*****
A few days ago I related the incident with the green butterfly. Well, apparently my 2 year old has a more vivid imagination than I gave him credit for.
This morning at 4 o'clock (yes, that is AM people) Alexander started crying in his room. I got up to find out what was wrong and met him coming out of his room.
"Crocodile!"
Great ... here we go again.
So, I go into the room with him to "kill" the crocodile. I find the spot that he is indicating and smack it.
"All gone?" I asked.
"Yeah," he confirmed.
I laid him down and went back to bed, content with my superdad abilities.
... or so I thought.
Not 30 seconds later he is freaking out again. I get up again to hear him say this time, "Halloween."
"It's not Halloween," I logically state, as if that will solve everything in the imaginative mind of a 2 year old. I put him back down and got back into bed, but this was far from over.
Again Alexander started crying and we met in what was soon becoming our ritual spot in the hallway.
"Scary polka dots," he said.
"Polka dots??" Really? Polka dots? What is this kid doing during the day that would cause him to have a primal fear of polka dots? How do I kill polka dots? I didn't even bother at this point and just put him back in bed. My monster killing powers were quickly fading.
One more time ... same story, different monster. This time it was an octopus.
By now I was getting seriously frustrated, and I just held him in his room and asked "What do you want?"
As I stood there rocking him, I looked toward his window and noticed that the curtains were parted and a light from a neighboring apartment complex was coming through casting shadows on the wall. My superdad senses kicked into high gear and I closed the curtains.
"Is that better?" I asked.
"Yeah," he said. And this time he meant it. I put him down and he got himself into bed and fell asleep. Oh yeah, my powers had returned.
Of course, by now it was almost 5:30, so I decided to just get up and get ready for work. I hung up my superdad cape and started my day.
